Founded by Leslie King in 2005, Sacred Beginnings is a survivor-led organization that works with victims trapped in sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Our Home Base location offers drop-in services that include but are not limited to assistance with asylum, crisis intervention, case management, counseling, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, unemployment, housing, criminal justice and court-based advocacy, nurse or doctor consultations, as well as peer mentorship, support groups, educational workshops, job/life skills training and more. Survivors are also welcome to a quiet space to read, write, and reflect. Our transitional homes are safe, secure locations for victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation to find rest and restoration. The survivor-led, peer-mentored format ensures residents feel understood, which helps forge bonds that encourage success on their journeys to wellness. Residents have access to mental health treatment, low cost and safe housing for up to 2 years, peer mentoring, group counseling, individual counseling, case management, legal advocacy, 24-hour crisis intervention, structured recovery environment, skill building, employment assistance, substance abuse recovery, and more. Our Youth Runaway Program exists to reach runaways. We engage our Street Outreach Team, a survivor-led group, to go out at night where the runaways are at their most vulnerable. The team builds trust and offers hope while providing options to leave the streets behind. This can assist in gaining safety and a life in which they can thrive and become productive members of society. In addition to providing transitional homes, drop-in services, and a Youth Runaway Program in Grand Rapids, MI, Sacred Beginnings has been sought after for partnership by government agencies, legislators, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals across the country.
