About us
For over 50 years, Prein&Newhof has been meeting infrastructure needs for township, municipal, and private clients across West Michigan. We offer a wide range of engineering, environmental consulting, surveying, GIS, and laboratory services. At P&N, our single goal is to serve our clients – meeting their infrastructure needs with a combination of experience, integrity, creativity, and common sense. Because every situation is different, we put a high value on personal attention. And because needs change over time, we are dedicated to crafting flexible, long-term solutions rather than quick fixes. Begun by Tom Newhof and Ed Prein in 1969, P&N was founded on the belief that each engineer should take personal responsibility for meeting his or her clients’ needs – building long-term relationships and managing each project from start to finish, from preliminary design to final construction. Today, we are the engineer of choice for over 50 communities across West Michigan. Today Prein&Newhof is 100% employee-owned, with offices in Grand Rapids, Cadillac, Holland, Muskegon, Traverse City, Kalamazoo, and an Environmental Laboratory in Grand Rapids. The use of fireplaces is growing in popularity in both urban streetscape and community park design with deep historical roots dating back to ancient civilizations. Today, landscape architects are reimagining the traditional fireplace in innovative ways to enhance outdoor community gathering spaces. These modern interpretations blend functionality with aesthetics, creating inviting environments that beckon people to gather around the flames and enjoy being involved members of their community. In the heart of downtown City of Ludington, Michigan, Legacy Plaza is home to a unique fireplace that invites the community to celebrate the rich cultural and historical roots of the area. Community Development Director Heather Tykoski says, "The fireplace has added a warming area to many of our events, adding warmth and ambience for those shopping, dining, or otherwise traversing downtown on cooler evenings." Pickleball courts have been stealing the spotlight as the fastest growing sport in the country! With its growing popularity among people of all ages, pickleball attracts a wide range of users and fosters a sense of community engagement. Pickleball courts are versatile and adaptable, fitting into various landscapes and offering endless opportunities for active recreation and social connection! 🏓 Last summer, crews were hard at work pouring concrete for these new pickleball courts in Park Township, and now that spring has arrived, court painting will begin in the coming weeks. The vision of this versatile recreation area for Park Township pickleball players includes utilizing surrounding berms and vegetation to act as a wind break and barrier for a better user experience. Our landscape architecture team is always looking for innovative ways to create vibrant community gathering spaces!
